The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has congratulated Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, urging citizens to embrace peace, unity, and mutual coexistence during the celebrations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the police chief joined millions of Nigerians in marking the Islamic festival and offered prayers for continued harmony, stability, and progress in the country.
To guarantee a peaceful celebration across the nation, the IGP directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders in all states and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify security operations and maintain a strong presence in strategic locations throughout the festive period.
The enhanced security arrangements include the deployment of tactical squads, intelligence officers, and regular police personnel to Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other crowded public areas considered vulnerable.
The Force also disclosed that visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance activities, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-driven crime prevention strategies have been strengthened to forestall any breach of peace and ensure the protection of lives and property.
According to the police hierarchy, rapid response measures have equally been activated to address any potential security threat during the celebrations.
The Nigeria Police Force further called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities, stressing that timely information from members of the public remains crucial in combating crime and safeguarding communities.
