The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission will conduct a mock accreditation of voters in the state on Friday.
Omoseyindemi said that the exercise, which would be conducted in one local government area each in the three senatorial districts, was part of efforts to ensure seamless exercise during the June 20 Ekiti governorship election.
The REC, who spoke in a chat with The PUNCH in Ado Ekiti, said, “We are going to have a mock accreditation on Friday. It is part of the preparedness programme by the INEC chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan.
“We are going to choose some local governments; it is the chairman who will decide based on his consideration, but it’s going to be one per senatorial district.
“The mock accreditation is to check the effectiveness of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines that would be used for the election.”
The REC, who said any lapses discovered during the mock exercise would be rectified, added, “Prevention is better than cure. We are trying to be proactive and know the challenges that we could have ahead of time. That is our level of preparedness.”
Omoseyindemi said the collection of voter cards would continue until Thursday, and appealed to registered voters who had not collected their Permanent Voter Cards to do so in order to participate in the June 20 election.
