Ellen DeGeneres has given fans a rare look at her $18 million countryside home in the UK, months after quietly moving there with her wife, Portia de Rossi.
The former daytime talk show host posted a playful video on Instagram, showing her first experience using a lawnmower at their new property in the Cotswolds.
The video starts with DeGeneres riding a bright yellow mower across a flat stretch of land surrounded by rolling green hills and trees. It then cuts to a humorous moment where she struggles to get the mower up a hill and is helped by a man pushing from behind. DeGeneres captioned the moment with a light-hearted comment about her wife suggesting they record it.
This glimpse into their new life in England comes after the couple relocated in November 2024. Since then, DeGeneres has shared more of her countryside lifestyle, including a gardening video posted on Wednesday where the pair tend to their land together, joking that their dream seems to be working as a landscaping crew rather than farmers.
The couple’s Cotswolds home, purchased last June, is their latest escape from the Hollywood spotlight. In December, DeGeneres reassured followers that their home had not been damaged by heavy flooding caused by Storm Bert, even as parts of the region endured days of strong winds and rain. She posted a photo with de Rossi during their anniversary and reflected on their two-decade relationship.
As part of their transition out of California, DeGeneres also sold one of their last remaining U.S. properties earlier this year. Their Montecito home, located in the same upscale area as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, was listed in March and quickly entered escrow. It eventually sold for $5.2 million, slightly above its asking price, after receiving multiple offers in just two days.
Originally a modest cottage, the Montecito home was renovated in 2012 and transformed into a sleek beach-style bungalow with two bedrooms and modern upgrades. Its sale marks the couple’s final step in leaving behind their American real estate portfolio as they settle into their life abroad.
Now enjoying a quieter lifestyle in the English countryside, DeGeneres appears to be embracing retirement with humor, home projects, and a change of pace far from the stage lights of her long-running TV career.
