Eno Threatens to Revoke Delayed Contracts in A’Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has warned that his administration will not hesitate to terminate contracts awarded to contractors who fail to deliver on schedule.

Speaking during a media briefing in Uyo on Saturday, the governor said government projects were intended to improve the lives of citizens and should not be stalled by contractors who show little commitment to their responsibilities.

Eno expressed concern over the slow pace of work on some ongoing projects, particularly the Tabernacle Road project in Uyo and the Midim–Atan–Etim Ekpo Road in Essien Udim Local Government Area.

According to him, the Tabernacle Road contract was re-awarded in February 2024 and adequately funded by the government, making its prolonged delay unacceptable.

The governor stressed that public funds must be used efficiently and that contractors who fail to meet expectations risk having their contracts revoked.

Highlighting his administration’s infrastructure achievements, Eno disclosed that more than 1,300 kilometres of roads and about 40 bridges have been constructed across the state within the last three years.

He listed completed projects to include the 14.3-kilometre Ikot Ubo–Odot Road in Nsit Ubium/Nsit Atai, internal roads at the Police Headquarters in Uyo, and roads in Ikot Akpan Abia.

The governor also noted that several projects inherited from previous administrations had been completed, including the Ikot Esu–Otomo–Azumini Road in Ika, the Pepsi Junction–Ukpom–Abak Road, and the Ikot Ekaide and Ikot Okoro bridges.

He added that work is ongoing on key infrastructure projects such as the dualisation of Ring Road III and the reconstruction of the Ikot Akpadem–Iko Road, which includes bridge construction.

To improve road conditions in the state capital, Eno announced plans to establish a monitoring committee comprising members of the media and civil society organisations to collaborate with government in addressing potholes within Uyo metropolis.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to projects that would enhance the welfare of residents and called on citizens to continue supporting government efforts through constructive feedback and cooperation.

He urged Akwa Ibom residents to remain patient, assuring them that his government remains focused on delivering quality infrastructure and improving public services across the state.
