Samuel Eto’o has won a legal battle that allows him to compete for a spot on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee.
This decision comes after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in his favor, overturning a previous ban.
Eto’o, a former star of clubs like Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea, has been leading the Cameroon Football Federation since 2021. His tenure has been marked by both ambition and controversy.
His troubles began last year when CAF fined him $200,000 for ethics violations related to his promotion of a betting company. FIFA later handed him a six-month ban for misconduct. In February, his legal team successfully appealed the fine, clearing the way for his return to football administration.
With the CAF general assembly set to assess candidates on March 12, Eto’o now has another opportunity to influence African football at the highest level. His supporters see this as a fresh start, while critics remain cautious about his leadership.
