Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has described the late deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, PhD, as a principled statesman who embodied the best of the indomitable Bayelsa spirit.
Reacting to the passing of the late Senator who served in the 9th Senate, Omo-Agege said he was “fiercely loyal to his righteous convictions on whatever speaks to the best of humanity and human decency”.
In a statement he personally signed, Omo-Agege, the Obarisi of Urhoboland, noted that the “confirmed sudden passing of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, PhD, is a terribly painful loss to all our good people of Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta, the Urhobo Nation and indeed our dear country.
“Senator Ewhrudjakpor was a dear brother, a principled friend and an amazing statesman who proudly honoured and lived by the fundamental tenets of his enviable ancestral Ofoni-Urhobo republicanism. He embodied the best of the indomitable Bayelsa spirit.
“The Distinguished Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor was fiercely loyal to his righteous convictions on whatever speaks to the best of humanity and human decency. Unwavering in his commitment to the evolution of a better society, I watched this great man serve his people with admirable diligence as Commissioner for Works.
“As a colleague in the 9th Senate, he brought his huge intellectual wealth and wisdom to bear on complex leadership issues without ever seeking the limelight. Though a co-equal Senator, he was this genuine and special brother who was always there to advise and support me in my constitutional role as the Deputy President of the Senate of the 9th Senate. Never tired of suggesting solutions to questions that I needed excellent answers to.
“Our people have lost a great patriot. I have lost a profoundly good brother whose passionate kindness cannot be repaid. My heartfelt condolences to his dear family, our Ofoni people and the Government and entire good people of Bayelsa State.
“We thank God who made our brother such a unique blessing to humanity for the time he spent with us. May we draw good examples from his worthy life in the hope that on the Resurrection Day, we shall be together in glory according to the word of God and the faith we share in Christ Jesus”, Senator Omo-Agege.
