Ex-IGP Alleges Results Manipulation in Nasarawa APC Guber Primaries

A former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has expressed concerns over alleged attempts to manipulate the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Nasarawa State.

Musa Hussaini, director-general of the Mohammed Adamu governorship campaign organisation, made the allegation while addressing journalists on Friday in Lafia.

Mr Hussaini said results obtained from wards and local government areas where voting took place reflected the will of party members and demonstrated widespread support for the aspirant.

He alleged interference with the election result sheets by some officials of the Nasarawa State Government in certain local government areas.

According to him, the alleged actions were undemocratic and capable of undermining the credibility of the primary election.

He called on the APC electoral committee to remain impartial and uphold what he described as the genuine results from ward polling and collation centres.

“We, therefore, call on the APC electoral committee to remain firm, impartial and committed to justice by upholding the genuine results as obtained at the wards and local government collation centres.

“The committee must resist every form of pressure, intimidation or attempt to manipulate the democratic process,” he said.

The campaign director also insisted that results already declared from polling wards where elections were successfully conducted should be officially recognised.

According to him, the results reflected the mandate freely given to the aspirant by party members.

“The voice of the people must not be suppressed. Democracy within the party can only be strengthened through transparency, fairness, due process and respect by all stakeholders,” he said.

Mr Hussaini urged party supporters and the general public to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while awaiting the conclusion of the electoral committee’s assignment in line with party guidelines.

Meanwhile, Augustine Ogaba, the APC state publicity secretary, declined to comment on the allegation.

Collation of results from the governorship primary was ongoing at the state collation centre in Lafia at the time of filing the report.
