Ex-RTEAN Chair, Son Remanded Over Murder in Ekiti

A magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti on Monday remanded a 70-year-old man, Rotimi Olabiwonnu and his 34-year-old son, Adedoyin Olabiwonnu, in a correctional centre over the alleged murder of one Sunday Ogunsakin.

‎‎In a Form K brought by the police, prosecutor Akinwale Oriyomi told the court that the defendants committed the offence in Afao-Ekiti on September 14.

‎He alleged that the father, a former chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in Ekiti State, conspired with his son and murdered Mr Ogunsakin.

‎‎Mr Oriiyomi said the deceased was abducted by the defendants over a land dispute.

‎‎He told the court that he was pulled out of the car and sustained injury as a result.

‎‎The prosecutor added that he was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

‎‎According to him, the offences contravened Sections 244 and 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

‎‎The prosecutor then urged the court to remand the defendants at the correctional centre, pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

‎‎However, the court did not accept their pleas.

‎‎The chief magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, consequently ordered the defendants remanded to the correctional centre pending legal advice.

‎‎He adjourned the case until November 2 for mention.
