Attahiru Bafarawa, who governed Sokoto State between 1999 and 2007, has officially ended his membership with the PDP.
His resignation, shared in a letter addressed to the party’s acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, outlined his intention to focus on a movement aimed at improving the lives of young Nigerians.
Bafarawa expressed gratitude for his time with the PDP and acknowledged its contributions to democracy and governance in Nigeria.
He noted that his new mission is to empower young people through innovation and opportunities, which he believes are key to building a brighter future for the nation.
This decision follows his earlier statement about stepping away from active politics.
The former governor said: “This decision, though deeply personal and difficult, is borne out of my commitment to a new chapter of service that aligns with my vision of uplifting humanity through empowering the youth.
“Over the years, I have been honoured to be part of the PDP, a platform that has significantly shaped Nigeria’s political landscape and contributed immensely to nation-building.
“However, I have recently dedicated myself to a new youth movement that seeks to inspire, empower, and transform the lives of our young people, who are the bedrock of our nation’s future.
“In light of this, I wish to avoid any potential conflict of interest that may arise from my political affiliations.”
