The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has terminated the appointment of 22 of its staff over ‘currency racketeering’.
A source which pleaded anonymity told t SUMMIT POST that the exercise was carried out in two batches.
“The first batch of 11 staff were first served termination letters. This raised anxiety level amongst the rest. However, about three weeks later, another batch of 11 were sacked.”
The source say, their offence borders on currency trading of new naira notes, especially during the currency redesign.
“They are used to selling currency (new naira notes) to highest bidders. They make brisk business with it.”
It was learnt that more heads will still roll at the Apex bank on the same offence and others.
