FAAN Assures Comfort at Lagos Airport Amid Terminal Rehabilitation

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has assured passengers of continued comfort and accessibility at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, despite ongoing large-scale rehabilitation.

FAAN’s managing director, Olubunmi Kuku, gave the assurance on Wednesday after inspecting the newly constructed temporary departure terminal.

She said the temporary terminal would serve passengers during the planned closure of Terminal One for comprehensive rehabilitation works.

Ms Kuku stressed the urgency of the project, noting that Terminal One had operated for over 48 years without major improvement.

She said, “This upgrade is not only necessary but urgent to meet modern air travel demands. The comfort and seamless experience of every passenger remain our utmost priority throughout this essential upgrade.”

Ms Kuku said robust temporary arrangements had been put in place to minimise disruption during construction.

“We are committed to delivering a world-class gateway that Nigeria will be proud of,” she said.

According to her, the project is a priority for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which recognises Lagos as the nation’s premier aviation gateway.

“This rehabilitation is being done for all Nigerians, to manage growing traffic and build the infrastructure our country deserves,” Ms Kuku said.

She outlined a phased approach, including full remodelling of Terminal One and extension of Terminal Two with an expanded finger and apron.

“The temporary 8,000-square-metre departure terminal is over 90 per cent complete and will soon serve five to six airlines,” she said.

Ms Kuku said the facility would handle 1,500 passengers at peak periods, with full check-in, security screening and three boarding gates.

She added that supporting infrastructure, including car parks and pickup areas, was ready, with accessibility prioritised for elderly passengers, children and those with reduced mobility.
