FAAN Attains Dual ISO Certifications

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has successfully achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification for its Quality Management System and ISO 14001:2015 certification for its Environmental Management System.

FAAN made the announcement in a statement on Monday in Lagos.

According to the authority, the ISO 9001:2015 is an international standard that shows an organisation has strong systems in place to consistently deliver quality services, meet customer expectations, and continuously improve how it operates.

While the ISO 14001:2015 confirms that the organisation manages its activities in an environmentally responsible way by reducing waste and pollution, complying with environmental laws, and promoting sustainable operations.

According to the statement, the certifications represent a significant milestone for the authority under the leadership of Mrs Olubunmi Kuku as Managing Director.

It said the certificates marked the culmination of months of dedicated effort, rigorous internal auditing, and organisational improvements.

FAAN revealed that the certificates were granted by MSECB, Canada, the dual certifications confirmed that FAAN’s operational and environmental management systems now met globally recognised standards.

MSECB is Management Systems Inc., a Canadian-based certification body that specialises in auditing and certifying organisations against international management system standards (such as ISO standards).

It is headquartered in Laval, Quebec, Canada and operates globally.

This certification places Nigeria’s airport authority firmly among modern, competitive, and forward-looking airport organisations worldwide.

The statement praised Kuku for her commitment to airport development and human capacity building, strong focus on institutional reform, accountability, and performance excellence which has distinguished her.

According to the statement, both certificates strengthen FAAN’s credibility with international airlines, development partners, regulators, and the traveling public, while positioning Nigeria’s airports as viable hubs in an increasingly competitive global aviation market.

It noted that the challenge would be sustaining and deepening these standards through continuous audits, skills development, environmental innovation, and customer-focused reforms.

FAAN noted that the certifications crowned a long and deliberate transformation, anchored on the successful implementation of an Integrated Management System.

It said this system harmonised operations, strengthened internal controls, and institutionalised a culture of continuous improvement across the authority.

The statement said that the authority had moved decisively beyond reactive management to proactive, standards-driven governance.
