The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has renewed efforts to improve security enforcement and judicial coordination across airports in the country through a strategic stakeholders’ meeting focused on arrest procedures, prosecution, and justice administration in the aviation sector.
The meeting, titled “Strengthening Arrest, Prosecution and Judicial Administration Within the Airport Environment,” gathered legal practitioners, security operatives, prosecutors, and other aviation stakeholders to discuss measures aimed at improving regulatory compliance and the administration of justice within airport facilities.
Speaking on behalf of FAAN Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Aviation Security Services, ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe, highlighted the importance of strong law enforcement and collaboration among agencies in protecting airport infrastructure and sustaining public trust in the aviation industry.
He noted that airports must continue to uphold safety, order, discipline, and strict adherence to regulations, stressing that offences committed within airport premises should be treated seriously due to their implications for national security and passenger confidence.
Igbafe added that FAAN remains committed to protecting passengers, workers, and airport users, explaining that this can only be achieved through improved cooperation among Aviation Security personnel, the Nigeria Police Force, prosecutors, and other relevant agencies operating within the aviation sector.
He further called for stronger enforcement systems to ensure compliance with aviation safety rules and security regulations across airports nationwide.
In her remarks, FAAN’s Director of Legal Services, Bridget Gold, described the engagement as important and timely, particularly in addressing operational and legal challenges affecting airport management.
According to her, the forum was organised to improve stakeholders’ understanding of judicial processes within airport environments while clearly defining the responsibilities of security agencies, legal practitioners, prosecutors, and other institutions involved in justice administration.
She stated that the engagement would enhance collaboration and coordination among agencies responsible for maintaining security and order within Nigeria’s airports.
The event also featured technical discussions and interactive sessions involving legal experts, prosecutors, and security agencies on ways to improve arrest procedures, prosecution systems, and judicial coordination within the aviation industry.
