Failed Negotiations*: FG Terminates Julius Berger’s Contract for Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway
The Federal Government of Nigeria has terminated Julius Berger’s contract for the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway rehabilitation project.
According to Mohammed Ahmed, Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Works, the decision was made due to Julius Berger’s failure to attend a meeting to finalise the contract sum, which the government had set at N740 billion.
The contract, initially awarded in 2018 for N155.7 billion, had experienced significant delays and cost increases. Despite 13 months of negotiations, the parties failed to reach an agreement.
The Ministry cited non-compliance with reviewed costs, scope, and terms, as well as Julius Berger’s refusal to remobilize to the site, as reasons for the termination.
