Bwatiye Land has suffered the loss of one of its most distinguished sons. With the passing of Mr. Geoffrey Anthony Yawati, we bid farewell not merely to an accomplished artist, but to a cultural icon, visionary sculptor, and custodian of our collective memory. His departure marks the end of a remarkable earthly journey, yet his legacy remains firmly etched in the heart of our people.
Geoffrey Anthony Yawati possessed a rare gift the extraordinary ability to transform stone, metal, and imagination into enduring symbols of identity and heritage. Through his exceptional craftsmanship, he created the iconic Makwada Statue, a masterpiece that has become far more than a monument. It stands as a proud emblem of the resilience, history, values, and cultural identity of the Bwatiye people. Future generations will continue to look upon this work not simply as art, but as a powerful narrative of who we are and where we come from.
In every society, there are individuals whose contributions transcend their professions. Geoffrey Yawati belonged to this rare class of nation-builders. Yet even in sorrow, we find comfort in the certainty that genuine legacies do not perish with death. They continue to speak through every life they have touched and every masterpiece they have left behind.
To the bereaved family, we extend our deepest sympathies. May Almighty God grant you strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult season. To the entire Bwatiye community, may we honour his memory not only with words but also by preserving and celebrating the cultural heritage to which he dedicated his life.
Mr. Geoffrey Anthony Yawati has completed his earthly assignment with honour. Though his voice is now silent, the Makwada Statue and the many works he leaves behind will continue to proclaim his genius for generations to come.
