The Nigerian government is considering handing over some of its airports to trusted foreign companies.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, at the Airline Economics Conference in Dublin, Ireland, on January 12, 2025.
Keyamo discussed plans to establish high-quality Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities to support affordable aircraft maintenance and promote dry-leasing models.
He also highlighted the potential benefits of concessioning airports to respected global operators to make them more attractive and competitive.
During his speech, Keyamo noted the progress in Nigeria’s aviation sector, aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He called for innovative partnerships and financial solutions to help the sector grow, addressing concerns like insurance, financial stability, and taxation policies for local airlines.
The Minister’s efforts to make Nigeria a key player in West African aviation have been recognized internationally, especially following the country’s removal from the global aviation blacklist.
