FG Fires Back at Emir Sanusi, Says “We Don’t Need Your Stamp of Approval”

The Federal Government of Nigeria has responded to yesterday’s remarks by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, regarding the economic reforms introduced under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement, the government noted that while Sanusi has the right to express his opinion, it’s “amusing” that he would publicly admit to withholding the truth due to personal interests.
The government emphasised that Nigeria is at a critical juncture, requiring bold actions to tackle economic challenges. The administration’s reforms, which include unifying exchange rates and removing fuel subsidies, are already showing measurable progress. These reforms have bolstered investor confidence, increased foreign reserves, and strengthened Nigeria’s ability to shield itself from external economic shocks.

However, the government expressed disappointment that Sanusi, who has consistently advocated for such reforms, is now subtly condemning them due to a shift in loyalty. “His Highness, given his background in economics, has a unique responsibility to contribute constructively rather than undermine reforms aimed at collective progress,” the government stated.
The government urged Sanusi to rise above personal interests and partisan undertones, prioritizing the greater good of Nigerians. “Rebuilding Nigeria requires unity, focus, and sacrifice from all stakeholders,” the government emphasized. “We urge esteemed leaders to refrain from rhetorics that undermine public trust and instead champion the collective goal of a prosperous Nigeria.”
According to the government, the reforms introduced by President Tinubu’s administration are designed to lead Nigeria towards economic inclusivity, sustainability, and shared prosperity. “The challenges we face demand courage and collective effort, not divisive narratives,” the government noted.
In the words of Mohammed Idris, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, “Let history record this moment as a turning point—when leaders and citizens alike, choose to prioritize the nation’s destiny over personal gain. Together, we will deliver on the promise of renewed hope and a better Nigeria for all.”
