The Nigeria High Commission in Pretoria and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Johannesburg have said the third phase of the special repatriation flights for Nigerians in South Africa will depart the O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Friday.
The Consul General, Ninikanwa Okey-Uche, in a statement on Wednesday, said that 271 Nigerian nationals have been cleared to travel and are to assemble at the Nigeria High Commission office in Pretoria on Thursday by 10:00am.
“The Nigeria High Commission in Pretoria and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Johannesburg are pleased to inform that the third government-arranged special repatriation flight will depart OR TAMBO Airport, Johannesburg during the early hours of Friday, 3rd July 2026,” Ms Okey-Uche stated.
The notice detailed the departure announcement and process for the third government-arranged special repatriation flights for the cleared Nigerian nationals, stating that the federal government would not relent in protecting and prioritising the welfare of Nigerians.
“All those on the list are to assemble to depart for the Airport by buses organized by the Missions. This is to ensure safe passage and access to the special restricted area of the Airport, where our nationals will be processed for departure,” Ms Okey-Uche stated.
She added, “Assembling at the High Commission to join the official buses is mandatory. None are permitted to go independently, as they will not have access to the special area of the Airport being used for the final processing exercise. Furthermore, this is the only way to guarantee your safety en route to the Airport.”
The consulate urged the expected Nigerian nationals to come along with their clearance certificates, as well as other documents used during the screening process.
It also announced a baggage allowance of two checked bags for adults and a similar allowance for minors, adding that only a collapsible pram, infant cot or infant car seat would be allowed.
“We continue to implore all our nationals to remain patient, stay safe and be law abiding, by staying away from crime and criminals, in order to uphold and protect the good name of our beloved country – Nigeria,” the consul general said.
