According to a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the State, the move was approved by Governor Agbu Kefas as part of efforts to strengthen public safety, accountability, and protection of lives and property across the state.

The statement explained that the committee will thoroughly investigate both the immediate and underlying causes of the repeated fire incidents and evaluate the level of preparedness, coordination, and response of relevant agencies.

The committee is also expected to identify operational challenges encountered during firefighting and emergency interventions and propose practical and sustainable measures to prevent future occurrences.

It will further recommend ways to improve fire safety standards and reinforce emergency response mechanisms statewide.

The panel is required to submit a comprehensive report of its findings and recommendations within two weeks of its inauguration.

Membership of the committee is drawn from key government ministries, security agencies, and technical institutions chaired by Tanko Dauda of the State Fire Service.

Other members include representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Economic Development,
Yola Electricity Distribution Company, the Nigeria Police Force, Ministry of Rural and Urban Development, Ministry of Environment, Taraba State Environmental Protection Agency, Ministry of Waste Management, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, NNPC, NSCDC, NDLEA, Taraba State Marshal Security Guards, and NUPENG.

While Christy Iliya, Assistant Director of Home Affairs and Special Services, will serve as Secretary of the committee.

The statement said the constitution of the panel underscores its commitment to proactive emergency management and stronger institutional response to disasters across Taraba State.
