The Taraba State Chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has expressed concern over the insecurity situation in the state, which has made agricultural activities difficult and reduced production.
The association’s chairperson, Hajiya Laraba Amina Abdul, made the disclosure during the sales of fertilizer and other farm inputs for the 2023/2024 Dry season irrigation farming held at Farmer’s Unity Hall, TADP, Jalingo.
Abdul said that the insecurity has led to farmers being unable to access their farms, which has resulted in a decline in food production. She also highlighted other challenges faced by farmers, including the lack of access to modern farming equipment, finance, and extension services.
Despite the challenges, AFAN Taraba State is working to support farmers and improve agricultural production in the state. The association has partnered with Global Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited to provide farmers with fertilizer and other farm inputs at a subsidized rate.
The association has also trained farmers on modern farming techniques and is advocating for the government to do more to address the challenges faced by farmers.
