FORIJA Board Appoints Caretaker Committee to Revitalise Igala Journalists’ Forum

By Achile Danjuma

The Board of Trustees of the Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA) has constituted a Caretaker Committee to steer the affairs of the association for one year, following extensive consultations with stakeholders.

In a statement signed by Elder Reuben Okala on behalf of the Board, the decision was reached after stakeholders unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the need for an interim leadership to revive the association, strengthen its structures, reconnect members, and prepare the ground for a credible electoral process.

The newly appointed Caretaker Committee members are: Eneojo Herbert Idakwo (Acting President), Juliet Akoje (Vice President), Yusuf Akogu (Secretary General), and Hass Akodih Emmanuel (Mobilisation Officer/Public Relations Officer).

According to the Board, the committee is expected to immediately commence the process of revitalising FORIJA by promoting unity among members, expanding membership, reviewing the association’s operational framework where necessary, engaging relevant stakeholders, and organising a free, fair, and credible election at the expiration of its one-year mandate.

The Board expressed confidence in the calibre, experience, and commitment of the appointed officers to restore the association’s relevance and reposition it as a respected professional body that promotes excellence in journalism and contributes meaningfully to the development of Igala land.

FORIJA, the umbrella body of Igala practising journalists, has been registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a legal entity. The forum has over the years engaged in advocacy, condemning violence and killings in Kogi State, congratulating national appointees, and offering condolences to traditional rulers.

The Board called on all members of FORIJA, media professionals of Igala extraction, and other stakeholders to give the Caretaker Committee their full cooperation and support as it embarks on this important assignment.

“The Board remains committed to ensuring that FORIJA emerges as a united, vibrant, and professionally driven association that protects the interests of its members while advancing responsible journalism and the development of the Igala nation,” the statement added.
