BREAKING: Former Kogi Governor Ibrahim Idris Reportedly Dies In UK At 77

The Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA) has received with deep shock and profound sadness the news of the passing of the former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who was reported to have died in the United Kingdom on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the age of 77.

In a condolence message signed by its Secretary General, Yusuf Akogu, FORIJA described the late former governor, fondly called Ibro, as a towering figure in Kogi politics and a proud son of Igala land.

Alhaji Ibrahim Idris served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012 and left indelible marks in the political and economic development of the state.

FORIJA notes that before venturing into politics, Alhaji Idris distinguished himself as a successful businessman through Ibro Trading Company, Ibro Hotels and other enterprises, and brought that same entrepreneurial spirit to governance.

As Governor, he championed infrastructural development, civil service reforms and human capital development. His inclusive leadership style gave the Igala nation and indeed all of Kogi State a strong voice at the national level.

“The passing of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris is not just a loss to his family, but a monumental loss to Igala land, Kogi State and Nigeria at large,” the statement said.

“FORIJA commiserates with his immediate family, the Idris family of Idah, the people of Kogi East, the Government and people of Kogi State, and the entire Peoples Democratic Party family over this irreplaceable loss.”

The Forum recalls that Alhaji Idris was a father figure, a bridge-builder and a philanthropist who touched many lives.

FORIJA prays that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus and gives his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear the loss.

Adieu, Ibro!
