Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his decision was driven by a desire for wider political engagement and sustained public service.
Ochei confirmed his resignation in a letter dated May 8, 2026, which he sent to the APC Ward 4 Chairman in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The development was made public on Thursday in Asaba through a statement issued by his media aide, Austin Edemodu.
According to the statement, the former lawmaker said the decision followed deep reflection and consultations, stressing that it was not taken lightly.
He noted that he joined the APC in 2016 and was actively involved in strengthening the party at the grassroots level across Delta State. He said he contributed to expanding its structures, mobilising support, and increasing its visibility within the political space.
Ochei added that his exit was not influenced by resentment or internal conflict, but by a personal decision to pursue what he described as broader political goals aligned with his convictions.
“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” he stated.
He also urged his supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and committed to democratic values, while noting that he has not yet revealed his next political move.
