The former Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Elder Ahiaba Silas, has been recognised as a Global Peace Ambassador (Outstanding Elder Statesman of the year Award) in his country home, OJEH, in Dekina LGA, Kogi State.
The award was presented to him by the Kogi Youth Enlightment Initiative (KYEI), whose primary objective is to develop 5,000 young generation as Global Peace ambassadors within Rural Area and Urban City for sustainable development.
The Initiative and her members has been working tirelessly since inception in 2018 within and outside Kogi State. This year, they received recommendations after successful nomination processes from the Grassssroot Peace Ambassadors that certain personalities needs to be appreciated, recognised, and awarded for their selfless humanitarian services in youth and community development.
Elder Silas was one among the twelve Nominees because he has out performed, inspired many young persons, facilitate project for the community and stand as a stakeholder in ensuring peace is sustain at the community level.
In his statement while receiving the recognition and award, he thanked the leaders of KYEI, saying he sees all the activities on social media and encouraged them to be fair in all their dealings.
Elder Silas said what some of them are doing in the community is to reduce the long suffering of the people at the grassroot level, that government alone can’t served the people and give them all the amenities as expected rather individuals, corporate body has to complement and support the government to accomplish her objectives.
Finally, he used the opportunity to send a strong elderly message to the youth of Kogi State across board to desist from social violence, drug addict and all maner of unhealthy behavior and activities that will not bring development to the grassssroot. Build and promote peace among one and other as a youth, respect elders, further your education irrespective of the economic of challenges, develop your skills and stand with what is right at all time.
Amb. Peter Isah Destiny, the Lead Director of the Initiative applauded Amb. Elder Silas for granting them audience to have father and sons interaction, praying that in subsequent time we will get the results of our expectations and promised not to disappoint his word of encouragement, that going forward we will be coming around for mentoring for the development of the Initiative from his wealth of experience.
The event was well attended by dignitaries from all walks of life, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth leaders, and women leaders.
It is hoped that this recognition will inspire other elders in Kogi State to emulate Elder Silas and contribute to the development of the state.
We are proud of Elder Silas for his commitment to peace and development in Kogi State. We believe that his example will inspire others to make a positive difference in their communities.
