Former NYSC DG Regains Freedom After 22-Day Ordeal, N250 Million Ransom
Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga, the retired Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been freed by his kidnappers after a staggering N250 million ransom was paid.
According to credible sources, General Tsiga was released on Friday, February 28, 2025, after spending 22 agonizing days in captivity.
The kidnappers, led by notorious bandit leader Babaro, had initially demanded a hefty ransom for Tsiga’s release. The retired NYSC DG was abducted on February 6, 2025, from his residence in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, by over 100 armed men.
During the attack, two individuals sustained injuries, and one of the attackers was accidentally shot dead by his gang member. The Katsina State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding Tsiga’s release.
General Tsiga is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital. The payment of the N250 million ransom has raised concerns about the growing trend of kidnapping for ransom in Nigeria.
