Four persons have lost their lives in a road crash that occurred on Thursday evening along the Ilesa–Akure Expressway at Omi Asoro Junction in Ilesa, Osun State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun Sector Command, confirmed the incident on Friday through its Public Education Officer, Agnes Ogungbemi, who also disclosed that 10 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Although the exact cause of the crash had not been fully established at the time of filing this report, eyewitness accounts suggested that the accident involved a mini-bus and a Toyota Hiace bus heading towards the Akure axis.
A trader in the area, identified simply as Tobi, said the collision occurred around 9pm when a bus loaded with phone accessories and electronics crashed into a smaller intra-city commercial mini-bus operating within Ilesa metropolis at the Omi Asoro Junction.
Providing further details, Ogungbemi stated that three victims died on the spot, while another later died on Friday morning, bringing the total number of fatalities to four.
She said, “Four people died while 10 others sustained injuries. Three victims, consisting of two adult males and a female child, died instantly. Another victim died this morning. Their remains have been deposited at Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.”
According to her, the injured victims include seven adults and three children.
Ogungbemi also noted that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus and a Suzuki mini-bus, adding that the driver of the mini-bus did not possess a valid driver’s licence at the time of the crash.
