The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has secured the conviction of 35 motorists for violation of traffic laws in Awka, the state capital.
The motorist were convicted by a mobile court at the FRSC Sector Command Headquarters in Awka.
The Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe, said that Chief Magistrate Adaora Okoli convicted 35 out of the 44 motorists apprehended during special enforcement operations within the command’s operational corridor.
Mrs Onabe said that nine persons were discharged and acquitted by the court.
She said that 72 traffic offences were recorded during the special enforcement operation and include seatbelt and driving licence violations.
Others are speed limit device violation, overloading, tyre violation, vehicle licence violation, number plate violation, and related traffic offences.
Mrs Onabe explained that the exercise formed part of the corps’ sustained enforcement strategy aimed at reducing road traffic crashes through strict compliance with traffic regulations and operational visibility across the state.
According to her, the mobile court proceedings were conducted peacefully and in an orderly atmosphere without operational challenges.
“Adequate security was provided by armed personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise,” she said.
Speaking during the session, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the strict enforcement of traffic laws and the prosecution of offenders.
Ms Asekhauno said that the measure was aimed at deterring reckless driving and other violations that endanger lives on the roads.
She urged motorists to always comply with traffic regulations, ensure proper documentation of their vehicles and adopt safe driving practices to help reduce road traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities.
Ms Asekhauno said that the command would continue to intensify enforcement operations, public enlightenment campaigns and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to ensure safer roads in Anambra State.
