FIFA has named Cameroon’s Monique Ngock, Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga, Cameroon’s Michaely Bihina and Algeria’s Marine Dafeur among its top stars from the recently concluded 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
FIFA released the rankings on Tuesday.
Cameroon, Morocco, Algeria, and Malawi each had two players on the list, including the Chawinga sisters, while South Africa and Ghana had one player who reached the world governing body’s rankings.
Below is the list of the top 10 African stars at the 2026 Cameroon, Morocco, Algeria, and Malawi
1: Monique Ngock
The 21-year-old central midfielder leads the ranking following a solid performance at the tournament for Cameroon, with remarkable defensive contributions, alongside progressing the ball forward to lead several counterattacks. She was named Player of the Tournament following Cameroon’s historic victory against Malawi.
2: Temwa Chawinga
The Kansas City attacker was clinical throughout Malawi’s campaign. In Malawi’s WAFCON debut, the 27-year-old fired a brace to secure Malawi’s first-ever WAFCON victory against the Super Falcons of Nigeria 3-2. She went on to clinch the golden boot of the tournament with five goals and two assists.
3: Michaely Bihina
Michaely Bihina was another major standout performer for the Indomitable Lionesses. The 22-year-old goalkeeper only conceded twice throughout the whole tournament. Her notable displays include Cameroon’s clash against Nigeria, and Morroco were she saved four penalties to seal the Indomitable Lionesses ticket to the WAFCON finals. Bihina was honoured with the Golden Glove of the tournament.
4: Marine Dafeur
Algeria’s captain Marine Dafeur was another incredible player who shone at the 2026 WAFCON. She was the first player to score at the tournament and stunned the world with a world-class free kick against Kenya in the group stage.
5: Hanane Ait El Ha
Morocco’s Hanane Ait El Ha took the leadership role as the Atlas Lionesses captain, seriously pushing her side forward to the semi-finals, and registered five assists and a goal as the tournament’s assist leader.
6: Tabitha Chawinga
Tabitha Chawinga, the elder sister of Temwa Chawinga, was also in Malawi’s historic run at the 2026 WAFCON, finishing just a goal behind her sister Temwa with four goals in the tournament, while sealing the country’s qualification for the Women’s World Cup.
7: Thembi Kgatlana
The brilliant forward was another incredible goal scorer at the tournament. The 31-year-old prolific forward from the 2026 WAFCON netted four goals in the tournament, including a goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to South Africa as they seek their spot in the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
8: Melissa Bethi
The young midfielder defied all odds as one of the key figures for Algeria as a versatile player who can play in different areas of the midfield. Bethi concluded her run in the tournament, scoring a goal and taking home the bronze medal.
9: Sakina Ouzraoui
Sakina Ouzraoui made a vital impression in the tournament in the Atlas Lionesses’ opening match, netting a goal in their 4-0 win against Kenya. The winger was another player who was versatile in Morocco’s attack. She also scored a crucial goal to book the Atlas Lionesses’ 2027 Women’s World Cup ticket.
10: Alice Kusi
The Ghanaian midfielder delivered an incredible performance throughout the Black Queens’ campaign, setting up critical counterattack plays and also dominating the midfield against the opposition.
