Abdulaziz Ganduje, son of former Kano State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has officially left the APC and aligned with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Abdulaziz, who is associated with the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has also picked the NDC nomination form to contest for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
In a video currently making rounds online, he was seen introducing himself to Kwankwaso while publicly announcing his ambition to run for the federal legislative seat on the platform of the NDC.
The constituency is presently represented by Tijjani Jobe, who is seeking another term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jobe was initially elected under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) before defecting to the APC in January, where he later secured the party’s ticket for re-election.
The move by Abdulaziz is already generating reactions across Kano’s political landscape, especially considering the long-standing political rift between Kwankwaso and Ganduje.
Both leaders were once political allies, with Ganduje serving as deputy governor during Kwankwaso’s administration in Kano. However, their relationship turned sour after Ganduje emerged governor in 2015, leading to years of political tension and the formation of opposing camps within the state’s political structure.
