Ghana has made significant progress in promoting gender equality and human rights, according to a report presented to the ECOWAS Parliament.
The country’s delegation, led by Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, highlighted Ghana’s efforts to empower women and girls, as well as its commitment to maintaining a democratic environment.
“Ghana has made significant progress in promoting gender equality, including the passage of the private member’s bill to amend the Criminal and Other Offences Act 1960 (Act 29),” the report stated.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin emphasised Ghana’s commitment to democracy and human rights, saying, “Ghana’s democracy continues to thrive, and its citizens continue to enjoy relative peace… The government of Ghana is committed to maintaining a conducive democratic environment for its citizens.”
The report also highlighted the country’s efforts to establish the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), which has been monitoring human rights compliance at various places of detention.
“Ghana is dedicated to contributing its quota to the overall stability and peace of the sub-region,” Hon. Afenyo-Markin said. “We believe that our collective efforts will lead to a more peaceful and prosperous region for all.”
The report’s presentation demonstrates Ghana’s dedication to promoting gender equality, human rights, and socioeconomic development, solidifying its position as a leader in the ECOWAS region.
