Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, commissioned the 10.4KM Edunabon-Tonkere Road in Ife North Local Government, ending over four decades of neglect and restoring a critical road network that connects communities and boosts socio-economic activities in the area.
Following the commissioning, the governor held a town hall meeting with traditional rulers from across Ife North Local Government, where the monarchs commended his administration for delivering impactful projects and fulfilling campaign promises to their people.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu praised the governor’s commitment to development, saying: “When you came and made this promise to us, no one believed you would accomplish what you have done for us today.”
The governor, who thereafter took his re-election campaign to Ipetumodu, said the completion of the long-abandoned road reflects his administration’s resolve to spread infrastructure and democratic dividends across every part of Osun State without discrimination.
Addressing a massive crowd at the campaign rally in Ipetumodu, Governor Adeleke urged the people of Osun not to succumb to intimidation or fear, assuring them that the forthcoming governorship election would be decided solely by the votes of the people.
“We know that Osun belongs to us. You must be bold, be fearless, and nothing will happen to you,” the governor declared.
Governor Adeleke called on Nigerians and security agencies to uphold democratic values, warning against violence and voter intimidation ahead of the election.
“Nigeria must be ready to defend democracy. If we truly want to practise democracy, then we must practise it the right way. Police officers who have children of their own are escorting APC thugs to attack and kill people. It is not that we are afraid, but we are deliberately choosing peace. They do not want us to vote, but we will use our votes to chase them out of Osun completely. Do not be intimidated or afraid,” the governor stated.
Governor Adeleke expressed confidence in the outcome of the election, declaring that victory is certain.
“I know we have already won, and by August 15, we will be celebrating,” he said.
The campaign train also drew loud cheers as the Secretary to the Osun State Government, Bobagunwa Teslim Igbalaye, joined the governor in Ipetumodu less than 24 hours after his release from police custody. His appearance was greeted with enthusiasm by supporters, who viewed it as a demonstration of resilience and commitment to the democratic cause.
The governor was accompanied by top government functionaries, party leaders and members of the Imole Campaign, while thousands of residents, youths, women and supporters turned out for both the road commissioning and campaign rally in a colourful display of solidarity ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
