Gov. Adeleke Unveils Health Insurance for Osun Monarchs

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday highlighted some achievements of his administration in the health sector, saying he has rehabilitated over 200 Primary Health Care Centres across the state since coming on board.

Adeleke, who spoke in Osogbo, Osun State, at the inauguration of the newly completed Osun Health Insurance Multipurpose Hall, also at the ceremony, performed the symbolic presentation of free health insurance cards to the traditional rulers in the state, to formally flag off the initiative.

Adeleke who said the event underscores his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare, further expressed commitment to an expanded access to health care for the residents.

“The free enrolment initiative is another bold step by our administration to ensure that traditional rulers and their queens enjoy access. We are determined to provide qualitative healthcare services without financial hardship, in line with the government’s people-centred health policy.

“Our administration has delivered across the sectors: over 300 kilometres of roads, over 200 rehabilitated primary care centres, over 150 rehabilitated schools, ongoing payments of salary debt and pensions, almost N2bn for cooperative financing, new tractors and farm inputs for farmers, ongoing five star stadium, and so many other deliveries of good governance. Our administration has done well; we deserve to be re-elected,” the governor said.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary, Osun Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Rasaq Akindele, itemised many initiatives funded by the State Government to improve the quality of healthcare available to the residents through the agency.

Describing the initiative as “strategic milestone worthy of mention,” Akindele further disclosed that free health insurance for the traditional rulers and their wives goes beyond providing health insurance coverage alone.

He added, “It is a deliberate strategy to deepen community ownership and acceptance of the Scheme. Across our State, Royal Fathers are the custodians of our culture, the gatekeepers of our communities and trusted voices whose influence transcends social, political and religious divides.

“By enrolling them into the Scheme, we are not only recognizing their invaluable contributions to community development but also empowering them to serve as ambassadors and advocates for social health insurance at the grassroots.

“Their personal experience with the Scheme will undoubtedly inspire confidence among their subjects, encourage voluntary enrolment and reinforce the message that health insurance is a reliable and sustainable means of accessing quality healthcare.”

The Osun Health Insurance Agency had commenced arrangements to enroll traditional rulers across the state and their spouses into the State Health Insurance Scheme following the approval of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The agency said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare delivery for all residents of Osun State, regardless of social status or background.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary of OHIS, Rasaq Akindele, on the state’s X handle disclosed that the agency had already put necessary measures in place to ensure a seamless enrollment exercise across the state.

He said officials of the agency would begin visits to the palaces of traditional rulers from Wednesday, May 20, 2026, for registration and enrollment, adding that the exercise would last for two weeks.
