Gov Uba Sani Announces Plan For Nigeria’s largest Inter-state Bus Terminal In Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has unveiled plans to construct what he described as the largest inter-state bus terminal in Nigeria, both in scale and supporting infrastructure.

The governor made the announcement on Sunday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, which will be located on a 20-hectare site along the Eastern Bypass in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the ultra-modern facility will operate as a dual terminal capable of accommodating over 5,000 vehicles. It will be equipped with intelligent traffic management systems, advanced surveillance infrastructure, escalators and elevators to ensure easy access for all users, including the elderly and persons with disabilities.

Governor Sani disclosed that the terminal will also feature refuelling stations for petrol, diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG), positioning Kaduna State as a leader in sustainable transport solutions.

The complex will further include a three-star hotel to serve travellers, drivers and visitors. He described the project as a fully integrated mobility ecosystem designed to deliver safety, efficiency, transparency and future-ready transport services.

The governor said the project would serve as a major economic driver, easing congestion in Kaduna metropolis, improving inter-state and intra-city connectivity, and enhancing security through improved surveillance. He added that the terminal would create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for drivers, artisans, technicians, traders and service providers.
He noted that modern transport infrastructure plays a critical role in addressing insecurity and social vulnerabilities, stressing that the project would contribute to peace and stability in Kaduna State and the wider North-West region.

Governor Sani explained that the initiative forms part of a broader transport sector transformation. He recalled that since mid-2025, the state has deployed 100 free CNG buses, which have transported more than 1.4 million passengers and saved commuters nearly ₦1.5 billion in transport costs.

He added that the initiative has reduced emissions, eased traffic congestion and improved daily mobility for workers, students and traders.

The governor lamented years of poorly coordinated inter-state transport systems marked by congestion and insecurity, noting that the new terminal would consolidate scattered and unsafe motor parks into a single, professionally managed, technology-driven facility.

He revealed that the state government has completed 200 modern bus stops, while the Kakuri Modern Bus Terminal is about 90 per cent complete.

The redevelopment of Sobawa Motor Park, he said, has reached 50 per cent completion.

Looking ahead, Governor Sani announced plans to commence construction of the Kaduna Light Rail Project by March 2026, featuring a 30-kilometre Red Line and a 20-kilometre Yellow Line.

He also disclosed plans for a 24-kilometre Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor from Kawo to Sabon Tasha, supported by 30 modern stations and 120 buses.

“These projects are part of an integrated, multimodal transport system designed to serve all segments of society,” he said.

Governor Sani further revealed that Kaduna State was ranked second nationally for sustainable urban mobility at the National Urban Mobility Conference held in Abuja on January 22, 2026, and is the first state in Northern Nigeria to develop a comprehensive State Transport Policy.

“When the history of this era is written, let it be said that Kaduna State chose planning over improvisation, inclusion over exclusion, and sustainability over short-term solutions,” he said.
