A socio-political group known as Cross River Renaissance has described the nomination of a former Bursar of the University of Calabar, Mrs Beatrice Igwe as highly recommended and well deserved given her vast experience buoyed by unblemished track record in public service.
Chairman of the group, Comrade Mike Agbor who stated this in a statement released in Calabar explained that the stance of the group was in tandem with its philosophy of “promoting competence, capacity and proven antecedents over mundane considerations centered around character assassination.”
The group lauded Governor Bassey Otu for the nomination describing it as a bold move to enthrone the people -the first mantra of the administration through excellent service delivery.
On the insinuation by a faceless group that the former Unical Bursar was sacked from the University after she was indicted over financial impropriety, the socio-political group described the allegations as a baseless assumption borne of our ignorance.
According to them,” Mrs. Beatrice Igwe’s ordeal towards the end of her tenure as Bureau of Unical was due to a faceoff with the then Chairman of the Governing Board of Unical, Dr. Nkechi Nworgu over an argument leading to her suspension, contrary to public service procedures.
“Consequent upon the inauguration of a new Board with General Martin Agwai rtd as the Chairman, the issue leading to her suspension was investigated and resolved with a not guilty verdict unanimously adopted, thereby clearing her of any wrongdoing”
“Consequently, the board cleared and reinstated her into office completing her tenure with all benefits and entitlements due to her fully restored. Upon the completion of her tenure, she was appointed as the Director, Unical Liaison with effect from March 2023 by the present Vice Chancellor”
The group warned mischief makers to desist from making spurious allegations with the intent to malign or discredit certain individuals due to gross animosity or hatred because they have been lucky enough to have the bright side of life smile on them.
