At least two people have been killed and several houses reportedly destroyed after gunmen attacked four communities in the Berom area of Plateau State.
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), which disclosed the development, condemned the attacks and said several residents were also injured during the incidents.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the association’s spokesperson, Rwang Tengwong, said the attacks took place on the night of August 11, 2026, across four locations.
According to him, gunmen invaded Gwa-Wereng Rim, where Bulus Mwagwong, popularly known as Dikko, was killed. His cousin, Yakubu, also sustained fatal injuries during the attack.
Tengwong further reported that 47-year-old Stephen Dachollom Kaze was killed in Kyeng Village, Bachi District, at about 8:30 p.m.
He said attackers also set houses on fire in Dorong Village, leaving residents frightened and destroying property.
In Jol Village, armed assailants reportedly exchanged gunfire with local vigilantes during the attack.
The BYM spokesperson expressed concern over what he described as the growing frequency of attacks in rural communities, warning that the violence was putting farmers and other residents who depend on their land at risk.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful, as its spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, did not respond to calls and messages sent to him as of press time.
The latest incident occurred about a week after reports emerged that three brothers from the same family were killed in Tarai Village, Riyom Local Government Area of the state.
