The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of Letam Kine, the former Chief Security Officer of Khana Local Government Area.

‎Kine was reportedly attacked and shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Polytechnic Road in Bori, Khana LGA, at about 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

‎Confirming the incident on Monday in Port Harcourt, the command’s spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, said the attackers escaped before security personnel arrived at the scene.
‎
‎She disclosed that the victim’s remains had been deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy, while detectives had commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing.
‎
‎According to Agabe, the police have launched a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
‎
‎She also appealed to the deceased’s family to officially report the incident to the police, explaining that such a step would support ongoing investigations and aid the swift administration of justice.
‎
‎The police spokesperson reaffirmed the command’s resolve to ensure everyone connected to the killing is tracked down and prosecuted.

‎Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Thomas Bariere, condemned the assassination, describing it as a senseless and tragic act of violence.
‎
‎He said Kine’s death was deeply disturbing and lamented that it came only weeks after the killing of Clement Deegbara of Kpong community.
‎
‎Bariere noted that the repeated attacks pointed to the activities of armed criminal groups bent on destabilising peace and security in the local government area.
‎
‎He urged security agencies to intensify operations across Khana and ensure those behind the attacks are arrested and brought to justice.
‎
‎The council chairman also extended his condolences to Kine’s family, praying for the strength to bear the loss.
‎
‎He called on residents to remain calm, stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.
‎
‎Bariere further assured residents that his administration remained committed to safeguarding lives and property across the council area.
