A Nigerian pilgrim taking part in the 2026 Hajj exercise has been reported dead in Saudi Arabia while moving from Arafat to Muzdalifah, one of the key stages of the pilgrimage.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday during the overnight transfer of pilgrims from Arafat after the completion of prayers and rituals.
The deceased, said to be a male pilgrim believed to have come from Bauchi State, was said to have collapsed and died shortly after arriving in Muzdalifah.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that Saudi emergency responders and security personnel quickly moved in, evacuating the body from the scene. He was reportedly taken away on a stretcher by medical teams, alongside Saudi police officers.
Officials attached to the Bauchi State pilgrims’ welfare team were also said to have been present during the evacuation process.
However, at the time of reporting, authorities had not officially released the identity of the deceased, and the exact cause of death has not been confirmed.
The incident happened during one of the most demanding phases of the Hajj pilgrimage, which involves intense movement between sacred sites, large crowds, and physically strenuous conditions.
