Ibadan, Nigeria – Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has shed light on the cause of Tuesday’s devastating explosion in the Bodija area of Ibadan, revealing that illegally stored explosives by unauthorized miners triggered the blast.
The explosion, centered around Dejo Oyelese Street, caused widespread damage, impacting the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, House of Assembly, and surrounding buildings in areas like Ologuneru, Apete, New Garage, and Sango.
While preliminary reports suggested a higher death toll, Governor Makinde clarified that two lives were lost, with 77 injured – most of whom received treatment and were discharged. He extended heartfelt condolences to families and assured full support in navigating this tragedy.
Governor Makinde emphasised the ongoing investigation, vowing to hold all involved accountable. “Anyone found culpable for this will be brought to book,” he declared. This message resonated with many residents seeking answers and accountability.
