The Ane Igala Restoration (AIR), a pan-Igala socio-cultural organization, is strongly objecting to the recent conferment of non-Igala titles by the Ankpa Traditional Council led by Eje of Ankpa, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Ahmed Yakubu.
AIR argues that the Eje of Ankpa stool, established in 1974 for the Atiyele ruling dynasty within the Igala Nation, historically rotated among seven traditional stools and holds no Fulani affiliation. They view the conferment of Hausa-Fulani titles like Galadima and Turakin as a disrespect to Igala values, identity, and traditions, even bordering on cultural sellout.
AIR emphasizes that titles should be conferred in Igala, preserving the rich heritage and distinct identity of the Igala people. They urge the Ankpa Traditional Council to immediately cancel the conferment of non-Igala titles and call upon the Igala people and Ankpa brothers to reject them.
To address this issue, AIR implores the Igala Area Traditional Council led by Atta Igala, Mathew Opaluwa Akpa, to intervene.
The organization reiterates its commitment to protecting and preserving the Igala values, glory, honor, and identity. They are prepared to utilize all means necessary to achieve this aim.
