The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers across different ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to strengthen personnel welfare, improve morale, and reward professionalism.
The promotion exercise, announced on Saturday through a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, cuts across all commands and formations nationwide.
According to the statement, the exercise saw 165 Sergeants elevated to Inspectors, 73 Corporals promoted to Sergeants, and 17,714 Constables advanced to the rank of Corporal.
The police leadership said the exercise reflects its commitment to merit-based career progression and institutional development within the Force.
IGP Disu stated that timely promotion remains a key motivational tool in human resource management and is essential for encouraging officers to remain committed to their duties.
He congratulated the newly promoted personnel, urging them to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, discipline, and professionalism.
He further charged them to uphold the core values of the Police Force, including integrity, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law.
The police chief also emphasised that officers must continue to demonstrate dedication and professionalism in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
