The Chief of Staff to the Cross River State Governor, Chief Emmanuel Ironbar, has paid glowing tribute to the First Lady of the state, Bishop Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, as she marks her 62nd birthday, describing her as “an embodiment of grace, compassion, and selflessness whose life continues to inspire a generation.”
In a goodwill message to commemorate the occasion, Ironbar extolled the First Lady’s blend of spirituality, intellect and humanitarian commitment, noting that her life has become “a beacon of hope to the vulnerable and a moral compass within public life.”
“Her Excellency is not just a First Lady in title, she is a First Lady in heart, in action, and in divine calling,” he said. “At 62, she stands as a testament to what it means to live for others. Her life is a daily offering poured out in service to God and humanity.”
He noted that her role in governance has transformed the office of the First Lady into a platform for compassion driven leadership. According to him, “her presence has elevated the office into one where policies meet empathy and service becomes a sacred duty.”
Highlighting her humanitarian interventions, Ironbar described her efforts as far reaching and impactful. “From healthcare outreaches to educational support, from empowering women to restoring dignity to the physically challenged, her initiatives are not mere programmes, they are lifelines,” he stated.
He added that her commitment to the welfare of women, children and youths has redefined inclusive governance in the state, stressing that her impact is visible across communities.
“In the marketplaces, in rural settlements, in the eyes of mothers and the laughter of children, her presence is felt,” Ironbar said. “She has brought governance closer to the people, translating leadership into visible compassion that meets real human needs.”
The Chief of Staff also praised her empathy and personal approach to service. “She carries a sacred warmth, an ability to make the forgotten feel seen, the broken feel whole, and the weary feel hopeful,” he said. “She leads not from a pedestal, but from a place of deep empathy.”
Describing her as a woman of strong faith, he noted that her spiritual calling reflects in her public and private life. “She is a vessel of divine grace. Her words heal, her prayers uplift, and her actions reflect Christ like love. In her, leadership and ministry are seamlessly intertwined,” he added.
Ironbar further commended her role as a supportive partner to the Governor, noting that her influence has been both stabilising and inspiring. “Her Excellency embodies wisdom and encouragement with elegance and humility, serving as a pillar of strength in governance,” he said.
He also highlighted her intellectual depth and professional accomplishments, describing her as “a woman of substance whose brilliance is matched by humility,” adding that her years of service and academic achievements have strengthened her leadership capacity.
Beyond her official duties, Ironbar lauded her humility and accessibility. “She carries herself with a rare simplicity that endears her to all. Whether engaging with dignitaries or ordinary citizens, she radiates authenticity and kindness,” he said.
As she celebrates her 62nd birthday, Ironbar offered prayers for continued strength and grace, describing her as “an enduring flame of hope, a mother to many, and a guiding light to all,” while wishing her many more years of impactful service to humanity.
