The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved projects worth N5.5 billion covering education, water supply and critical infrastructure as part of efforts to improve public services and stimulate economic growth across the state.

‎The council also approved the commencement of scheduled commercial flights between Dutse and Abuja through a partnership with Rano Air.

‎The Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Dutse.
‎
‎According to him, the council adopted the report of a committee headed by the deputy governor and endorsed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rano Air to begin commercial flight operations between the Jigawa capital and the Federal Capital Territory.
‎
‎Musa said the new air service would improve accessibility for investors, business operators, development partners and residents travelling between Dutse and Abuja.
‎
‎He described the initiative as an economic connectivity project aimed at attracting investment, expanding commercial activities and integrating Jigawa more effectively into the national economy.
‎
‎The commissioner added that the partnership is expected to boost trade, tourism, hospitality and other sectors connected to air transport, while enhancing the economic viability of Dutse International Airport.

‎To complement the transport initiative, the council approved N1.157 billion for infrastructure development at the Government Science and Technical College in Auyo. He explained that the project would provide modern facilities for technical and vocational education, equipping students with practical skills needed in today’s workforce.

‎The council also approved N2.771 billion for the construction of a new Emir’s Palace in Dutse. Musa said the project is intended to strengthen traditional institutions, preserve cultural heritage, promote peaceful coexistence and support community development.

‎In another decision, the state approved the hosting of the 41st National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, scheduled for November 14 to 30, 2026. The event is expected to attract participants from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, generating increased religious tourism, hospitality patronage and other economic activities.
‎
‎On education, Musa announced that the government approved postgraduate scholarships for 92 lecturers from state-owned tertiary institutions to study at Integral University, Lucknow, India, during the 2026/2027 academic session. The sponsorship will cover tuition, living expenses and other statutory costs.
‎
‎The approvals form part of the state’s broader efforts to strengthen education, improve infrastructure, expand transportation links and promote economic development.
