Jonathan is Exposed, Experienced, Can Salvage Nigeria — Coalition

The Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan 2027 has declared former President Goodluck Jonathan as the most qualified and experienced leader capable of addressing Nigeria’s current challenges, as it confirmed moves to position him for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at an international press conference, yesterday in Abuja, the president of the coalition, Tom Ohikere, said the group is mobilising support across Nigeria and the diaspora to facilitate Jonathan’s return to national leadership.

Ohikere described the coalition as a central coordinating platform uniting various support groups with a shared objective of restoring stability, reviving economic confidence, and promoting responsible governance in the country.

He said Nigeria is currently facing serious economic and security challenges, including rising inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and currency instability, which have increased hardship for citizens and weakened public confidence in governance.

According to him, the situation requires experienced leadership with a deep understanding of governance, adding that Jonathan’s record across multiple levels of public service places him in a strong position to lead the country again.

“Jonathan remains one of the few Nigerians with comprehensive experience in governance and a proven record of national leadership,” Ohikere said.

The coalition stressed its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting credible elections, and ensuring respect for the rule of law, noting that restoring public trust in governance remains a top priority.

It also emphasised the need for inclusive governance that reflects Nigeria’s diversity, fosters national unity, and reduces political tension across regions.

Highlighting Jonathan’s previous tenure, the group said his administration demonstrated commitment to democratic values, institutional stability, and economic reforms, adding that outcomes of the 2014 National Conference remain relevant to national restructuring efforts.

The coalition also criticised remarks by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar questioning Jonathan’s experience, describing them as inaccurate and inconsistent with his track record in public service.

Ohikere argued that Jonathan’s rise through various leadership positions—from deputy governor to governor, vice president, and ultimately president—reflects a broad and tested governance experience.

He further noted that Jonathan’s peaceful transfer of power in 2015 remains a landmark in Nigeria’s democratic history and a testament to his commitment to constitutional order.

The coalition said it has begun consultations with stakeholders and political groups nationwide, with plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation and advocacy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It urged Nigerians to reflect on past and present leadership experiences and make informed decisions about the country’s future.

“Support for Goodluck Jonathan represents a step toward restoring confidence, stability, and direction in Nigeria,” Ohikere said.
