President Bola Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Dr. Ahmed Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term.
The renewal of Audi’s tenure was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, titled “President Tinubu renews the tenure of Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of NSCDC,” the reappointment took effect from Friday, February 27.
Audi was first appointed to the position in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial five-year term concluded last Friday, coinciding with his participation in activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
Onanuga confirmed that Audi would resume his duties on Monday with a renewed mandate.
President Tinubu has tasked the NSCDC boss with repositioning the service to play a more significant role in the nation’s security architecture. This is particularly crucial as the Nigeria Police Force refocuses on its primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.
Dr. Ahmed Audi was born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
He began his educational journey at Teachers’ College, Jengre, in Plateau State, where he obtained a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987. He later attended the College of Education, Akwanga, earning a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1992. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education in 1995.
Driven by a pursuit of advanced knowledge, he earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001. He later obtained a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in 2014, and followed it with a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2019.
Audi began his career with the NSCDC in November 1996 as a volunteer. After completing his basic officer training in 1997, he was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
He rose through the ranks, serving in various state commands before being promoted to the rank of Commandant in 2007. He was subsequently deployed to the Office of the Commandant-General at the National Headquarters in Abuja.
