Kaduna State Executive Council has “approved the procurement of 6,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser, equivalent to 120,000 bags, for smallholder farmers.”
The council also approved “the second phase of township road construction covering 11 roads in Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Areas.”
According to the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, “the decisions were taken at the council meeting chaired by Gov. Uba Sani on Tuesday.”
He said “the fertiliser procurement was part of the government’s commitment to supporting smallholder farmers and boosting agricultural productivity.”
Mr Maiyaki recalled that “the state distributed 400 trucks of free fertiliser to 100,000 smallholder farmers in August 2025 under the governor’s farmer first policy.”
He added that “the state also executed its largest fertiliser distribution programme in 2024, delivering over 500 trucks of fertiliser and other dry-season farming support.”
Mr Maiyaki said “the road projects would improve infrastructure, ease movement of people and goods, stimulate economic activities and enhance access to communities.”
He said “Messrs Mothercat Nigeria Ltd. was awarded contracts for six roads. The roads include Babban Dodo-Durumi-Kofan Kuyanbana, Rimin Tsiwa-Kofan Gayan, Secretariat-Albarkawa-Kaura, Maje Road, Turunku Road and Waff Road.”
He added that “Layin Radio in Zaria and Sabon Gari also formed part of Mothercat’s contract.”
Mr Maiyaki said “Messrs CGC Nigeria Ltd. would construct five roads across the two local government areas. They include Aba Road, Tudun Wada, Turunku Road in Sabon Layi, Dadda’u Road, Sheikh Umar Muazu Street and Idris Majeh Street.”
The commissioner also announced “the approval of the Kaduna State Life Skills Policy.” He described it as “a framework to equip learners with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes for education, employment and life.”
Mr Maiyaki said “the policy would integrate life skills into formal and non formal education through curriculum development, effective teaching and appropriate assessment.”
He added that “it would strengthen teacher capacity, promote socio-emotional learning and improve employability and entrepreneurship among young people.”
According to him, “Kaduna is the first sub-national government in Nigeria to implement the life skills policy.”
The council also approved “the Kaduna State Policy on Gender in Education.”
Mr Maiyaki said “the policy would promote equity, inclusion, participation, retention, completion and improved learning outcomes for all learners.”
He said “it would eliminate gender based barriers to education, reduce school dropout rates and promote gender-responsive teaching and learning.”
