Kaduna Govt Denies Approving N2.3trn for APC 2027 Campaign Flag-Off, Calls Letter Fake

The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on social media claiming that Governor Uba Sani approved and released N2.3 trillion for the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress, APC, 2027 presidential campaign in the state.

The government described the document as a fabrication intended to damage the governor’s reputation and mislead the public ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, stated this in a statement on Saturday.

He said the purported letter, dated October 18, 2026, and titled “Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off,” contained inconsistencies that cast doubt on its authenticity.

The letter, allegedly addressed by Mr Sani to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, identified as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, claimed that the governor had budgeted and released N2.3 trillion for the campaign flag-off scheduled for Saturday, October 24.

However, Mr Maiyaki said the entire 2026 Kaduna State budget stood at N985.92 billion, making the alleged campaign expenditure more than twice the state’s annual budget.

He said the claim was unsupported by any authentic budgetary appropriation, approval or expenditure records.

The commissioner also pointed to discrepancies in the purported letter, including the misspelling of the governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and the alleged unauthorised reproduction of his signature.

“The Kaduna State Government categorically disowns this document. Governor Uba Sani neither authored nor authorised the purported letter, and no N2.3 trillion was budgeted, approved or released for the presidential campaign flag-off,” Mr Maiyaki said.

He described the allegation as fictitious and an attempt to mislead the public.

The commissioner said Mr Sani, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, had remained committed to fiscal discipline, transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.

He listed security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection as priority areas of the administration.

According to him, the government’s financial management approach is reflected in its infrastructure projects, agricultural investments, rehabilitation of public institutions, settlement of inherited pension liabilities and social protection programmes.

Mr Maiyaki also alleged that the circulation of the purported letter was part of a pattern of misinformation aimed at discrediting the governor and his administration ahead of the 2027 elections.

He warned that fabricating official correspondence and circulating false financial claims could attract legal consequences.

“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law. The fabrication of government correspondence and circulation of false financial claims cannot be justified as legitimate political criticism,” he said.

The commissioner disclosed that the government was taking steps to establish the origin of the document.

He called on security and investigative agencies to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against anyone found culpable of forgery or impersonation.

He also urged members of the public and media organisations to verify documents and allegations concerning public expenditure before circulating or publishing them.

Mr Maiyaki said the governor remained focused on maintaining peace, strengthening public institutions, developing infrastructure and improving residents’ welfare.

He added that the administration would not be distracted from its commitment to prudent financial management and sustainable development.
