The Katsina State Government has officially outlawed the sale, purchase, transportation, and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans across the state, while also suspending the use of motorcycles in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas as part of fresh security measures to curb banditry and kidnapping.
Governor Dikko Radda announced the directives following an emergency security meeting involving security agencies, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders. The measures were contained in an Executive Order issued through a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed.
Under the new order, residents are now prohibited from handling fuel in jerrycans anywhere in the state. The government explained that the restriction is aimed at cutting off fuel supply channels allegedly used by criminal groups operating in remote areas.
The administration also directed the immediate closure of all Point of Sale (POS) operators and commercial phone-charging businesses in Matazu and Musawa LGAs, following intelligence reports that such facilities were being exploited by criminal networks.
In addition, the movement of motorcycles has been banned in both affected local government areas, in a bid to restrict the mobility of bandits who often rely on them for operations.
Governor Radda reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains the priority of his administration, adding that government will continue to work closely with security agencies to restore lasting peace across the state.
He called on residents to comply fully with the directives and assist security operatives with useful information that could support ongoing operations.
The governor also warned that anyone found violating the new measures would face strict sanctions, stressing the government’s commitment to ensuring safety and stability across Katsina State.
