Six Suspects Arrested Over Machete Attack in Katsina Community

The Katsina State Police Command has taken into custody six individuals suspected of carrying out a violent assault on residents of Keku Village in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, and released on Friday, the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 2:00 p.m. when the suspects allegedly stormed the community armed with machetes and sticks.

The attack reportedly left several villagers with varying degrees of injuries before security operatives were alerted.

Police said swift intervention by operatives led to the arrest of the suspects, identified as Dayyabu Salisu (25), Usama Mansur (23), Yunusa Nura (27), Abdulmumini Alka (23), Buhari Suleiman (27), and Abubakar Safiyanu (27).

Items recovered from them included machetes, sticks, and motorcycles, which are now being used as exhibits in the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary findings suggest that the suspects conspired to disrupt peace during the Sallah celebration and deliberately caused unrest in the area. Authorities added that the timely response of security personnel prevented the situation from escalating further.

Victims of the attack were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively.

The Command stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina, CP Ali Umar Fage, condemned the incident, describing it as unacceptable, and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He also urged members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and report suspicious activities through emergency contact lines provided by the Command.

The police further reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on thuggery, mob violence, and any act capable of disturbing public peace in the state.
