Kebbi Gov Creates New District, Appoints Traditional Ruler

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the creation of Ummu District in Zuru Local Government Area and appointed Aliyu Ibrahim Gujiya as its district head.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Dutsinmari, announced the development in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, saying the new district was carved out of Rafin Zuru District to strengthen grassroots administration.

The new Ummu District comprises eight village areas: Paso, Sondoro, Denkre, Akwanchi, D’hava (Hato), Daklo, Ummu (Gari) and Bedi.

Dutsinmari said the creation of the district was in line with the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which empower the government to create districts and appoint district heads.

“The creation of Ummu District is in line with the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which confer powers regarding the creation of districts and appointment of District Heads,” the statement said.

The commissioner said Gujiya was appointed based on his record and demonstrated ability to serve the people of the area.

“His appointment was based on his track record and demonstrated capacity to serve his community,” he said.

Dutsinmari charged the new district head to discharge his responsibilities with discipline, honesty, transparency and dedication.

He assured Gujiya of the state government’s support, adding that the ministry would work with him to strengthen grassroots administration in the new district.

The commissioner said the creation of Ummu District was part of the government’s efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and bring administration closer to residents.

He added that the government remained committed to promoting peace and sustainable development across Kebbi State.
