Kogi State, Nigeria – The ongoing legal dispute over the Kogi State gubernatorial election results shows no signs of abating, with continued accusations and appeals from both sides. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, represented by Faruk Adejoh-Audu, has raised concerns about recent actions by the Kogi State government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mr. Adejoh-Audu expressed worry about the Kogi government’s call for INEC to disregard a tribunal order granting access to election materials for inspection. He termed this move as an attempt to “discredit the judicial review and undermine the democratic process.”
The SDP spokesperson further highlighted past incidents, including alleged attacks on INEC officials and the deployment of thugs, as evidence of a concerted effort to obstruct scrutiny of the election results. He described these actions as “unacceptable and undemocratic.”
Mr. Adejoh-Audu emphasized the importance of upholding the statutory timeframe for resolving election disputes. He urged the Kogi government and INEC to cooperate fully with the judicial process and allow for fair and transparent scrutiny of the election materials.
